Student-led academic platform of the LL.M. in Sustainable Development of the University of Milan
11.10.2019
The conference is organized by the Department of Italian Public Law and Supranational Law of the University of Milan, under the patronage of the Milan Bar Association. The event aims to bring to the attention of academics, students, professionals and the world of industry the challenges that new technologies are bringing to traditional institutions of law, economics and social sciences. The panels are dedicated to a variety of specific issues:
After the introduction by major national institutions, including CONSOB and the Bank of Italy, two international experts will examine the most fundamental issues arising from the blockchain expansion. We will then discuss economic issues, and therefore also the effects of crypto-coins on the world of finance; at the same time, new contractual models will be investigated, the so-called smart (legal) contracts, which are becoming increasingly widespread.
On the morning of the 26th, experts will meet to discuss how blockchain can be put at the service of sustainable development, and how it can impact dispute resolution procedures. Finally, we will talk about the GDPR and the privacy aspects to which the blockchain poses new challenges. The work will be closed by a CODEX expert, The Stanford Center for Legal Informatics.
All guest speakers, international, European and Italian, belong to the university world, institutions and sector professionals; together they will bring their specific sector skills to discuss whether, and how, new technologies, in particular distributed register systems and the blockchain, are leading to a paradigm shift. We will therefore reflect on highly topical issues, with an approach aimed at integrating innovations with the past.

In this sense, we will also reflect on how new technologies can, and must, be placed at the service of sustainable development to implement the Sustainable Development Goals.
